Diversity @ Sea - Lara Williams to row from Ibiza to Barcelona next week in charity challenge
Updated: Jul 22, 2019

EQ Connects Speaker Lara Williams is about to push herself to the extreme – as she takes part in a rowing race this week from Ibiza to Barcelona.
The 200 mile journey is expected to take 3 days, as the rowers travel in specially designed 24 foot boats in burning Mediterranean heat. Setting of on 25th July, the race is being organised by Noman, a charity that seeks to raise awareness about the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) related cancer epidemic in men and women, and campaigns for universal HPV vaccination, while challenging participants to extreme endurance races across the world.
Rowing across the ocean is an endurance test for mind as well as body and will require the ability to cope mentally as well as physical strength.
Lara will draw on her experience in her session at EQ Connects – the race being an extreme example of how the tools of emotional intelligence can equip us to deal better with uncertainty, complexity and challenging situations. When you are pushed to the extreme and complexity is thrown in, how do we then best use EQ for maximum performance, maintaining equilibrium while achieving success? How does not having the right people on the boat… rock the boat? When waters are rough, what strength do you bring to the team? How do you achieve your goals when your mind says it’s too tough?
